Please only book on this course if you can commit to attending all or most of the classes. Attendance at a minimum of 6 classes is required to receive the completion certificate.


This course is suitable for you if you are new to mindfulness, or if you have some experience, even if you’ve already attended an 8-week or similar mindfulness course in the past.

The course will teach you all of the key skills and all major aspects of mindfulness, providing a solid understanding of theory and a deep connection with practice, enabling you to develop and maintain an ongoing practice for life.

Description

More About the MBSR Course

The evidence-based Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course is taught by an experienced teacher and is a good introduction to mindfulness and compassion.

Based on the gold standard, Jon Kabat-Zinn Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction training, this course will give you the tools to manage stress, anxiety and pain. During the course there is also the opportunity to attend a half-day retreat.

Course Content

Weeks 1 & 2:  Beginning with Mindfulness and what it is.  The body scan, mind and body connection.  Looking at how to build mindfulness into daily life.  Stress and stress response.

Weeks 3 & 4: Continued learning relating to stress, stress responses, reaction versus response.  Movement meditation and continued focus on mind and body.  Neuroscience behind mindfulness.

Weeks 5 & 6: Continued focus on neuroscience.  Working with the breath
Managing difficulties and challenges in day-to-day life.

Weeks 7 & 8: Self-care, compassion for self and others and a loving kindness awareness practice.

Practices and Home Practice

We will learn a wide range of practices, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Mindfulness of Breath
  • Mindfulness of Body / The body scan
  • Mindful Movement
  • Loving Kindness

We will also enjoy mindful walking and mindful eating on our retreat day.

You will be encouraged to practice at home in between sessions and be given audio recordings and a course workbook/journal to support you with this.

 

Your Teacher

Tony O’Shea-Poon trained at the UK College of Mindfulness Meditation in 2017 and became a tutor of the College in 2019, offering the Mindfulness Now Teacher Training course in London. He has trained more than 250 new mindfulness teachers since then.
Tony is a qualified hypnotherapist and support individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological conditions.
He also leads mindfulness and mental health workshops in organisations.
Tony has undertaken additional training with Mindfulness UK to offer the MBSR course within the good practice guidelines set by the British Association of Mindfulness-based Approaches.
