The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course is an interactive online course developed by Tony O’Shea-Poon. It provides 16 hours of training in all major aspects of mindfulness practice and incorporates the nationally recognised Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme. It consists of a mix of online self-study and online live tutorials.
The course is suitable for anyone experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, physical or emotional pain and those wanting to develop a peaceful mind.
It may be especially helpful in the current time for anyone that is distressed or suffering and equally for those who are feeling hopeful, seeking new way to live in harmony with themselves, with others and with their environment.

Who is it for?
The course is suitable for anyone that is experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, physical or emotional pain, or is feeling stuck or uncertain about their present situation or the future. It is also suitable for anyone who wants to develop greater self-awareness and to have greater understanding and control of their feelings and emotions. It can help participants to identify positive changes in any aspect of their life, and to take action to bring about those changes. It will help participants to develop acceptance and a non-judgmental attitude towards themselves and others and to live a more peaceful and harmonious life.
What happens on the Course?
This 4-week course is structured so as to introduce mindfulness in a gentle and encouraging manner.
Each week starts with 2 hours of self-study and then concludes with 2 hours of online live tutorial with other participants. Each week builds on learning in the previous weeks.
Participants receive a workbook, handouts and access to online resources.
The teacher will provide instruction and lead practice in a wide range of mindfulness techniques which will include breathing, gentle movement, meditations, visualisations and sensory awareness.
The teacher will give talks and lead discussion on the ‘mindfulness attitudes’ and participants will be able to contribute as much or as little as they are comfortable in doing. The teacher may also read stories, poetry or extracts from books that are relevant to the teachings.
The home practice is a significant part of the course and the teacher will provide a course workbook and give instruction on the exercises and practices to be undertaken in between the weekly lessons.
There is time in every class for participants to ask questions, share their experiences and support each other.
Graduates of the course receive a certificate and are given access to additional resources to support further practice.
Who is the teacher?
The course is led by Tony O’Shea-Poon. Tony trained as a mindfulness teacher with The UK College of Mindfulness Meditation. He is a member of the national Mindfulness Now teacher training team and the lead tutor in London. He is a practitioner of mindfulness in the Plum Village style, a tradition taught by Buddist Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh.
Tony is also a workplace coach and a clinical hypnotherapist, supporting individuals with a wide range of conditions and disorders using a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches , including mindfulness.
How much time does it take?
The full course is 16 hours in duration, with half of this being self-study and half online tutorials.
In addition, daily practice of at least 15 minutes between sessions is recommended, along with completion of the activities set for each week of the course.
Where is it held?
The course is held online, using an intuitive learning management system and Zoom video tutorials.
