FREE Mindful Walking in Nature (first Sunday every second month, 11am-12noon)

Join our peaceful group as we, once again, practice walking mindfully together through the beautiful landscape around the Peace Pagoda at North Willen lake. We will be walking in the tradition developed by Thich Nhat Hahn in the beautiful Plum Village in southern France.
Who is it for?
The event is suitable for you, no matter what your experience of mindfulness or meditation. No prior knowledge or experience is required.
The event is not suitable for very young children or for pets as they may be too distracting for other participants. While this is a gentle, slow walk, it may not be suitable for people with severe mobility difficulties as it may involve walking on inclines, uneven paths and grass.
What happens in Mindful Walking?
We start by meeting together at the Peace Pagoda and we sing a couple of simple songs that help us to generate feelings of peace, joy and gratitude. The words are provided on a leaflet.
We then begin our walk very slowly, observing all the beauty of nature around us, while also being fully aware of our own presence. We can observe our breath, our body in movement or any aspect of nature that we notice around us.
After about 30 minutes of slow walking, we stop and meditate in a standing position for a few minutes. If the ground is dry, we can choose to sit and meditate in that space.
Who is the Teacher?
The event is led by Tony O’Shea-Poon, an experienced coach, facilitator, peace activist and teacher of Mindfulness. Tony is trained to deliver the nationally-recognised Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy courses and is licensed by the UK College of Mindfulness Meditation to teach Mindfulness Now which is accredited by the British Psychological Society. Tony is capably assisted in this event by Jonathan Fine. Tony and Jonathan are practitioners of Mindfulness in the Plum Village style, a tradition taught by Buddhist Zen Master Thich Nhat Hahn.

How much does it cost?
This is a free event.
Voluntary donations can be given after the event to support the restoration of the marble square in front of the Peace Pagoda, providing a space for the whole community to enjoy for many years to come. The project aims to raise around £25k during 2019.
Where is it held?
This event takes place at The Peace Pagoda, North Willen Lake, Willen, Milton Keynes, MK15 0BA. We meet at the Peace Pagoda itself, not in the car park.
Parking is available (paid) at the Peace Pagoda car park or free parking is available on the opposite side of Brickhill Street V10. From Brickhill Street, turn into Japonica Lane and take the first right to a free car park. You can then cross the road (carefully) or take the foot bridge about 30 meters along the road.
Do I need to bring anything?
You might want to bring a small blanket or bag or cushion if you would like to sit on something during the short meditation after the walk, but this is optional.
